Johnson Support Grid
Jun 24, 2025

The Johnson support grid is one of the important components in petroleum refining equipment. Due to its wide application in hydrogenation reactors, it is also known as the catalyst support grating.
It is assembled by welding a V-shaped mesh screen with a support plate. The material is usually stainless steel 304/316 or chromium-molybdenum alloy steel.
It is resistant to high temperatures and hydrogen corrosion, has a sturdy structure, precise mesh size and a high porosity, and is easy to backwash, thus having a longer service life.
The structure of the wedge wire grating is generally multi-layer and composed of multiple pieces, which is convenient for maintenance and replacement.
It usually works at a temperature range of 200-450°C. The grid needs to bear the weight of the catalyst bed and prevent particles from entering the downstream.
Through the opening structure of the grid, hydrogen and raw materials can pass through the catalyst bed layer evenly. The grid structure can also ensure a large radial area and sufficient strength.
The wedegw wire grating produced by our company can adapt to various types of reactors and the various harsh working conditions of the internals in towers.
The design requirements for hydrogenation reactors are high, the manufacturing process is complex and difficult, and there are very high requirements for materials, welding technology and welding quality.
The Johnson support grid is the most important part in reactors and internal towers, so its production and quality are crucial to the production process of petroleum refining.
When choosing a catalyst support grid, please select a manufacturer with engineering experience and case studies.
